What Needs to Be Changed?

When's the last time you've taken a good "stock" of yourself? For me, it's been almost a year. There are some things that I know I need to work on changing; things I've been dealing with for quite some time. I've either dealt with them and they keep resurfacing because I never got to the bottom of them, I never dealt with them at all so they're still here, or I deceived myself into thinking I'd dealt with them only to find them back again.

Is this you? If so, I want you to take some time to think of what those things are. For myself, they are the following (major areas to be broken down as we go):
  • my weight and healthy eating
  • family obligations
  • church hurt
  • relationships with the opposite sex
  • fear
  • finances

If you'd like, you can get you a journal (binder, notebook, whatever) and dedicate it to this process. Studies show that maintaining a journal is often thereapeutic in nature and can offer a pathway toward understanding ourselves in an intimate way. It can also help bring healing... This is my expectation when I finish - to be free from all of the wrong ideas about those things and for them to be replaced with the right things. In short, for my mind to be renewed.

If anyone is helped by this as we go, please feel free to send me an email at kimberly.theroadtofreedom@gmail.com

Until next time...

So Why This Blog?

Let me start by saying that I really don't know. I just woke up this morning with some things on my mind. I was thinking about some people I love (and some I like) and various situations they're dealing with. And then I was thinking about some of the things I'm dealing with as well. I logged into Facebook and was reading some of the comments people were putting on there...asking for prayer, complaining about their job, relationship, issues with their children, a couple of jokes about money (the lack of it, that is) and it just hit me....we are so caught up with all the stuff that's going on around our lives, that we can't even enjoy the life we're living! I mean REALLY enjoy it! We're bound by other people's baggage and our own and WE'RE MEANT TO BE FREE!

There are so many different words in our vocabulary, but do we really know what they mean, or do we just recognize them in context? I took a moment to look up the word "free" and this is what I found:

FREE: able to act at will; not hampered; rid of or relieved from; not under compulsion or restraint; remove obstruction from; unconstrained or not chemically bount; not occupied or in use; not held in servitude.

Well, that ain't me! I could think of things that I do compulsively (out of habit) without knowing the reason why, and they don't make sense. I have been occupied and used; I have been hampered; there are some thing I'm not rid of; there are some things that obstruct me!

I have decided that I'm going to take time to examine some areas in my life...really examine them, and deal with them. I'm going to tear myself apart and begin to rebuild. And when I'm done, I am determined I am going to personify the meaning of the word FREE.

Above all, I want other people to be helped by this. So if you see yourself in any of the things I mention, then try what I'm trying and see if it works. If it doesn't, then we'll try to find something else. It's really all about being willing to change and loving yourself enough to be honest about some things. If you're willing, you can do this!

If there are outside materials I use, I'll make sure to mention them. If you have questions, I'll do my best to answer them. And if I can't, I'll work with you to find an answer. If you just want to read to watch my journey, feel free. But I hope to see you and the end of this road to freedom, just as free as me.

Until next time...
